Geopolitics Pakistan 2017

Geopolitical winds are blowing

in Pakistan’s favour in 2017. Still the occasional storms and tempests unleashed by enemies of Pakistan are part of the environment. In 2010 my first book, ‘Gwadar on the Global Chessboard’ introduced Geo-economics – an inspiration for CPEC. It was given to Mr. Nawaz Sharif and cabinet (then opposition) along with presentation. In 2012, the second book, ‘Geopolitik Pakistan’ Weltanschauung – (World View), a Geo-strategy for Pakistan besides a Global Geopolitical Review. Today both Geo-economics and Geo-strategy are charting Pakistan’s future destiny.

Indeed Gwadar – CPEC is the Game Changer for Pakistan and much of the region. Gwadar – CPEC will usher an era of undreamt prosperity.

“Pakistanis are waking up from their deep slumber. Pakistan may not have struck oil yet, but it has struck Gwadar”! Page 68 Book ‘Gwadar on the Global Chessboard’ by Nadir Mir (Published 2010).

It would also provide immense Geo-strategic leverage to Islamabad. Even more a New Identity of Pakistan would emerge. (One of the chapters of this book). Gwadar – CPEC and developments in Baluchistan will contribute to this Real Identity.

Pakistan – The Pivotal Central State

Pakistan is a Central State of many regions, not simply South Asia. This confers unique Geopolitical – Geo-economic leverage on Pakistan (the real reason India opposes Gwadar – CPEC). In my books articles, talks, discussions at National – International forum, I have termed these as Bridge State and Interposing State.

  • Bridge State: The Central Power Pakistan is emerging as a Bridge State.
  • China though CPEC links with the ocean is well known now.
  • Linking Russia: Central Asia with the ocean is the future.
  • RCEPC – Russia – Central Asia Pakistan Economic Corridor. In 2012, I wrote to President Putin, highlighting Gwadar.

  • Brigadier Nadir Mir (Retired) from Pakistani Army: Letter to Putin…

    Dear President Vladimir Putin,

First of all congratulations for being elected as President of Russia.

My brief introduction is Brigadier Nadir Mir (Retired) from Pakistani Army.

“This is a historical period for Russia and critical for World Peace.”

Now I am a writer, geopolitician and working for world peace. Some of my articles have been published in Pravda ru and Windows to Russia. In my book ‘Gwadar on the Global Chessboard’ I have urged the need for Russian cooperation at Gwadar. I am a strong believer of Russian – Pakistani friendship. Your dynamic and strong leadership is required by both Russia and the world. Your peaceful geopolitical efforts are restoring world balance. The people of the planet yearn for peace and prosperity and look up to you as a world leader.InPakistan, we seek very close relations with Russia. Your visit to Pakistan is being eagerly awaited and I would like to work for Russian – Pakistani friendship.

In the end I pray for your good health and prosperity for Russia. With best wishes and highest regards

    Nadir Mir

  • Also talked with Russian Ambassador HE Mr. Dedov and Turkmenistan HE Mr. Atadjan. The recent Russian amity with Pakistan is largely due to Gwadar magnet, as much as vagaries of Global Geopolitics.

Gulf Player: Gwadar – CPEC makes Pakistan a Gulf Player. The region and near region are Pakistan’s Geo-economic – Geopolitical sphere. Pakistan has a role in each.

New Gulf Player at Gwadar

As Gwadar is secured, develops and links to the world, it is time to explore it as the base for the New Gulf Player.

Destiny beacons Pakistan to become the New Gulf Player at Gwadar. To the west of Pakistan the Middle East is unraveling. This “Uncontrolled Chaos” has reached Turkey and may reach Gulf States. The Saudi-Iran clash continues, while Daesh like militants may creep in further. Pakistan as a Gulf Player can combine with Turkey, Saudi/GCC and coordinate with Iran for peace. Even as Pakistan is Strategic support for Saudi Arabia. Pakistan can also get support from China, Russia and Central Asian States. The Gulf is the natural outlet for SCO. By the same token, Pakistan as a Gulf Player can facilitate and assure US-UK. Both are hemmed in with US 5th fleet at Bahrain and the recent British presence at Bahrain. Pakistan is peace mediator in Afghanistan. It should also be a mediator and peacemaker in the Gulf along with other peace partners.

During the International Institute Strategic Studies (IISS) Manama Dialogue 2015, I suggested Pakistan as Gulf Player, which was welcomed by Saudi Prince Khalid Al Faisal, US CENTCOM Gen Lloyd J Austin and others. The idea of a larger Saudi led Alliance including Pakistan was proposed by myself. Pakistan as a Gulf Player can support both Saudi Arabia-Turkey, mutually while maintaining friendly ties with Iran.

Interposing State: Pakistan is also an interposing State.

Interposing Pakistan

The Central Power Pakistan, defended by Brave, Battle Hardened Pakistan Army, well stocked with Nuclear Weapons, backed by a resilient populace of 200 million cannot be defeated by India, nor coerced by any other power. The Interposing State of Pakistan will not allow Indian trade with Afghanistan. In fact it can disrupt even Air traffic between the two, when Indian hostility increases. USA while an old friend of Pakistan will remain dependent on Pakistan for Afghanistan and the region. Iran’s pipelines can reach China (IPC) through Pak good will and land space. Simultaneously Pakistan can combine the role of Bridge State and Interposing State. With a brilliant General Naveed Mukhtar leading ISI, Pakistan can and must play its role for Peace and Security in all regions. ISI is the Great Equalizer of Pakistan for all regions.

India The Eternal Enemy

India is the main enemy. The other security issues are trivial or linked to India. Most of the terrorism in Pakistan is due to India’s Hybrid War against Pakistan. Gwadar – CPEC is needed against India, not with India. Global India or regional dominance are Delhi’s melgomania. Geopolitics Pakistan should be supremely confident of defending its interests. A timely and apt rebuke was given by COAS General Bajwa to Indian Army Chief on so called surgical strikes from Occupied Kashmir.

Kashmir Resolution

Indian occupied Kashmir is in open revolt. ‘Azadi’ is the battle cry and ideology of the youth. Pakistan must be ready for 2017 – 2018 as Kashmir Freedom Movement moves to a climactic. The only resolution acceptable to people of Kashmir and Pakistan is withdrawal of Indian Army – Security Forces from Indian held Kashmir. Besides trials of Indians responsible for genocide and mass rape of Kashmiri People.

Rising Pakistan

Geopolitically Pakistan is on the winning side. It needs to cement strategic ties with China, while augmenting friendship with Putin’s Russia and Trump’s America. Besides balanced affinity with Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Iran. This will balance out with foe Modi’s India, appealing to USA alone. Sane voices in India are already unsure what Trump’s USA will do for Delhi. Mr. MK Bhadra Kumar comments in his article recently ‘India’s Foreign Policy crossed the Rubicon for unsure gains’. Conversely the debate in USA is how much isolation USA can be under President Trump. As Robert D Kaplan writes in ‘Shaped by Geography’.

‘Its Geography has given the United States straits of isolationism and internationalism. Donald J Trump can do only so much to change that ……….’

Back home Pakistan’s geography in terms of Geo-economic and Geopolitics is now coming of age. Its political geography need unity. George Friedman in his ‘Next 100 Years’ had noted lack of Pakistan’s Political Unity as retarding Pakistan emerging as a Regional Power.

Our Pakistan National Reform Movement aims to Unite Pakistan, Defend Pakistan, Reform Pakistan. A Nationalist (Pro-Pakistan) and Reformist (Pro-People) Movement is not a political party (since already over 300 Political Parties exist in the country). It preaches One Nation, One Flag-Pakistan.

Geopolitically Pakistan is the emerging Central Power. Yet it has to put its house in order to achieve maximum output. A unified Pakistan with Nationalist outlook regardless of Caste, Creed, Ethnic, Sectarian, Religious backgrounds. An inspiring message was given in a similar vein by COAS General Bajwa recently. A modern, progressive yet Nationalist, knowledge based Pakistan is the Future.

Pakistan is destined to emerge as a Great Nation.
